Shape of sessile drops at small contact angles

نویسندگان

چکیده

The shape of a sessile drop on horizontal substrate depends upon the Bond number $Bo$ and contact angle $\alpha$ . Inspired by puddle approximations at large (Quéré, Rep. Prog. Phys. , vol. 68, 2005, p. 2495), we address here limit small angles fixed volume arbitrary It readily leads to pancake approximation, where height radius scale as $\alpha ^{-1/2}$ respectively, with capillary forces being appreciable only near edge. approximation breaks down for $Bo=\textrm {ord}(\alpha ^{2/3})$ In that distinguished limit, gravitational are comparable throughout, ^{2/3}$ ^{-1/3}$ respectively. For $Bo\ll \alpha these scalings remain, turning into spherical cap. asymptotic results compared numerical solution exact problem.

On evaporation of sessile drops with moving contact lines

We consider theoretically, computationally and experimentally spontaneous evaporation of water and isopropanol drops on smooth silicon wafers. In contrast to a number of previous works, the solid surface we consider is smooth and therefore the droplets’ evolution proceeds without contact line pinning. We develop a theoretical model for evaporation of pure liquid drops that includes Marangoni fo...

Modeling evaporation of sessile drops with moving contact lines.

We consider evaporation of pure liquid drops on a thermally conductive substrate. Two commonly used evaporative models are considered: one that concentrates on the liquid phase in determining the evaporative flux and the other one that centers on the gas-vapor phase. A single governing equation for the evolution of drop thickness, including both models, is developed. We show how the derived gov...

Structural transitions in a ring stain created at the contact line of evaporating nanosuspension sessile drops.

Monodisperse nanosuspension droplets, placed on a flat surface, evaporated following the stick-slip motion of the three-phase contact line. Unexpectedly, a disordered region formed at the exterior edge of a closely packed nanocolloidal crystalline structure during the "stick" period. In order to assess the role of particle velocity on particle structuring, we did experiments in a reduced pressu...

Sessile and Pendant Micro-Liter Drops Evaporate at Different Rates: An Experimental Approach

Evaporation of micro-liter drops from solid surfaces at room condition is mainly governed by diffusion. Therefore, there should be no difference between evaporation rate of sessile and pendant drops. However, some studies indicate a difference and explain the difference using buoyancy. The objective here is to reconcile the inconsistency in the literature. For that, first, by comparing two iden...

Relaxation of nonspherical sessile drops towards equilibrium.

We present a theoretical study related to a recent experiment on the coalescence of sessile drops. The study deals with the kinetics of relaxation towards equilibrium, under the action of surface tension, of a spheroidal drop on a flat surface. For such a nonspherical drop under partial wetting conditions, the dynamic contact angle varies along the contact line. We propose a new nonlocal approa...
